Nearest railway station to Padmanabhaswamy Temple: which one to use
The useful answer depends on your train and where it stops. Here is how to compare the city stations, plan the last few kilometres and avoid treating an approximate map distance as a guaranteed journey time.

Thiruvananthapuram Central (TVC) is the main station most visitors use and is roughly 1–2 km from the temple area, depending on the gate and route. Pettah and Kochuveli are other stations in the city, but whether they are convenient depends on your train. Confirm your actual stop and use a current map or local transport for the last leg.
Central is the main station; check your train before choosing
Search results often show several stations for “Trivandrum.” For a first visit, Thiruvananthapuram Central (station code TVC) is the main city station and is the simplest reference point for the temple. It sits near the East Fort side of the city. The temple is close enough for a short local transfer, but walking conditions, traffic and the exact entrance matter.
Some trains also call at Thiruvananthapuram Pettah (TVP) or Kochuveli (KCVL). These may be closer to your accommodation or appear on your ticket, but a station’s straight-line distance is not the whole trip. Check the station printed on your confirmed ticket and plan from that station rather than selecting a stop solely because a map pin looks nearer.
How to get from Central station to the temple
From TVC, use an auto-rickshaw, taxi or app-based cab if available. Tell the driver “Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple, East Fort” and confirm the drop-off point; the road approach and permitted drop location can vary with traffic or events. A map may show a walk of around 15–25 minutes, but heat, luggage, crossings and local diversions make that a personal choice rather than a fixed recommendation.
Agree the fare or confirm the app estimate before departure. We do not publish a fixed fare because it changes by time, traffic, vehicle and operator. If arriving before dawn, arrange transport in advance and do not assume every service will be available at that hour.
What to check before you board
- Verify the station name and code on your ticket and live train status through Indian Railways or your rail operator.

- Check the temple’s officially published darshan schedule before choosing a train that arrives close to a slot.
- Read the dress requirements ahead of time. A tight connection from station platform to the queue is not a good time to sort clothing.
- Keep your phone and bags plan in mind: temple entry restrictions may mean storing some belongings outside the inner visit route.
Trying to arrive, change and clear an unfamiliar entry procedure in a few minutes creates avoidable stress. If your train reaches close to a darshan window, consider visiting later in the day after checking the schedule.
Central, Pettah or Kochuveli?
Choose Central when your train terminates there or when you want the main station facilities and a straightforward onward connection. Choose Pettah or Kochuveli only when your scheduled train stops there and the location works better for your stay. The best station is usually the one your train actually serves, not a theoretical nearest point.
