Padma Theertham is the tank in front of the temple and is a useful landmark if you get turned around.

Arriving for the early slots

Buses do not run at 3:00 AM. For Nirmalya Darshanam, book an auto or taxi the night before.
App cabs are unreliable in the small hours. A hotel arranged car is the safer plan.
The shops selling mundus open early but not all night, so arrive already dressed for that slot.

Driving yourself

Fort is a dense old quarter with narrow lanes and one way stretches. There is no parking at the temple gate and no drop off point closer than about two hundred metres.

Paid lots operate around the area at 30 to 50 rupees. On festival days they fill early, and the walk in from wherever you find space can be considerably longer.

If you are staying at Kovalam

Sixteen kilometres and about forty minutes each way. It works well for a morning visit if you leave by 7:30 AM and target the 8:30 AM window, which is the longest and least crowded of the day.

Coming in for the 5:00 PM evening session means returning in heavy traffic, so most people who stay at the beach do the temple in the morning.

Combining with the afternoon closure

The temple shuts from noon to five, so a single trip cannot cover both sessions without a long gap.
Kuthiramalika Palace is a hundred metres away and fills part of that gap.
The Napier Museum quarter is 4 km north and is the usual choice for the full five hours.
